Does the job, sturdy, good value for money., 4 July 2015

This is a sturdily-made piece of kit, and offers good value for money. It maintains a consistent angle as you sharpen your knives. The stones are quickly interchanged, and firmly gripped by the spring-loaded clasp. The finer stones tend to clog up with black dust, but they can be cleaned by firmly rubbing a little damp kitchen towel over them. The coarse stone is great for removing material to restore a really blunt or irregular edge. Once the shape of the blade is good, the other stones require just a few passes to do their work.

By going through the grades (coarse 180 to fine 1500), this kit allows you to put a smooth, consistent, sharp edge on your knives. The results are impressive: with a properly-sharpened knife, you can slice a piece of paper held up by one corner. It is worth while choosing the correct angle - sharper angle = keener blade = less durable. Wider angle = less keen = more durable.

The screws for adjusting the guides / holders are wing...

Ok'ish for the price - would not buy again, 4 Dec. 2015

Sturdy and, once fixed to a wooden base, rigid in use. However .. one stone fell off it's plastic base after a single use and 2 others showing signs of the same. The base is not long enough to get a full sweep of the stone arm meaning you will wear out the top end and never really use the bottom. No instructions (as mentioned, use youtube!). The metal seems a good idea but suspect the alternative versions might be better in use plus they come with small extras like honing oil.

they need a little work, 11 Dec. 2015

thee nuts which are used to tighten the plates need to be sanded to get them to fit the plates. and you can't use the hole length of the sharpening stones due to the holder bar not being long enough. all though as I have had the last version it just what you would expect for the price. they still do a good job with getting a very sharp edge.
