We had a food mill years ago like this for my daughter, who had eating difficulties, and it was fantastic, allowing us the freedom to go to restaurants without carrying extra food for her. I put everything from soup and salad to meat through it. For the grandkids, I thought I'd buy a new one. But unfortunately, despite the description on Amazon of a "stainless steel cutting blade and strainer disc", the disc is actually made of PLASTIC. This means the food doesn't really get cut before going through the strainer. Basically this is usable only for soft foods like ripe fruit, overcooked veggies and pasta, which could just as easily be mashed with a fork. Very disappointing.

Disappointing, 12 Dec. 2009
I bought this after reading the other reviews and have been disappointed. It works well on very soft foods (like ripe pear), hence the two stars, but these would be easy to mash into a puree anyway. I used it on some steamed mixed vegetables today and I had to push down so hard I might as well have just used a sieve instead, despite them being steamed until soft. I also find the disc quite fiddly to remove.

Melted strainer, 2 Feb. 2011
I bought this item because the product description stated that it "may be sterilised". This is apparently not true. After I sterilised it the plastic strainer melted so I could no longer use the product. When I contacted the seller they told me that according to the manufacturer the product is not sterilisable, and that it was a mistake that the product was described as such on the Amazon page (but that they could not change the product description).Until it melted, the mill was working fine, but to me being sterilisable is quite an important factor when making baby food.
