Full of promise, but its actually quite useless in functionality, 7 Feb. 2016

I was looking forward to trying this out.

It is a very small unit to fit in the palm, operated by one included battery - there is no marking on the device as to which way is positive!

It creates the usual hum when turned on.

I first tried it without the combs to trim my upper lip moustache.

It struggled to do this, which can be done with scissors in 15 seconds or 10 with the beard trimmer on my Philishave.

I then put on the smallest comb to thin it out a bit - not a thing happened, the comb is too thick to let hair pass theough the openings easily and as most hair is curly - it fails to enter the slots. I might work on dead straight short hair, so I tried it on that area, my chin.

Nope, about 3 hairs fell on my dark T-shirt, worn to evaluate hair cutting efficiency.

The bigger comb is decoration, it also does nothing.

So I tried the cutter without any combs, just passing it across the short hairy skin cuts some hair, not...

The trimmer comes with a neat little stand and two combs that clip over the trimmer blade. One comb is for a 5mm trim, the other for 8mm. There is a protective cap that fits directly over the trimmer head but not the combs.The thick, 24 language manual has a couple of pages in English to describe use of the trimmer and states that the trimmer comes with a two-year guarantee.

The pack also includes a Duracell AAA battery, which is inserted by pulling off the lower half of the trimmer. The battery cover is held in place with a silicone grommet. With a new battery the trimmer has a powerful sounding trim speed.

The trimmer is very light in weight and the thickness of the fat pen so it is easy to use. Being small and neat, it is designed for use on any hair such as neck, back and eyebrows. It is more suitable to taking out rogue hairs rather than trimming large areas of hair. I found it is excellent for trimming eyebrows and those beastie little hairs that try to...

Good for short beards, 4 Feb. 2016

The Braun PT5010 Precision Trimmer is a handy little beard/stubble trimmer - little being the very important and operative word. It's no more than five inches long, with a handle into which you fit the single AAA battery required for it to run (supplied) - it's not mains powered. There is a choice of two heads that you can fit, one with a 5mm blade, one with an 8 mm blade. It's a case of simply fitting the relevant blade, turning it on, and off you go.

It goes without saying that this is not designed for heavy use - if you have a thick beard (as I sometimes do) then it struggles - I found that it was simply not powerful enough to get through the beard hair. Since receiving the precision trimmer I have had a big beard trim (with my full-size trimmers), however, and I've found that now the Braun Precision Trimmer comes into its own. It's great with a short beard for accurate edging, much more so than my full-size trimmers.
