I, like many other reviewers have given epilators a very wide berth over the years after hearing feedback from friends saying that they were extremely painful. I was persuaded to try again by an advertsing campaign (never thought I'd be swayed by advertising, but there you are) as things seem to have moved on since the 1990s. I was intrugued to give the combined epilator and shaver a go, and as I spend nearly £70 on waxing each month (the curse of having dark hair) I spied an opportunity to save myself some time and money.

Obviously, epilation is not pain free, but compared with the first epilator that I used back in the 1990s, the silk-epil 7 is a revelation. Once I got started, I found it completely bearable. I had an initial fear of the blade and kept worrying that the pain I felt was the razor nicking my skin, but I soon got over it and relaxed. In fact, I was surprised how quickly I got used to the sensation.
I am very dark haired and I deliberately didn't shave my legs for a fortnight before I used this so I went from ape to supersmooth in around twenty minutes, which made the results even more impressive.
I loved being able to use this in water and found that I could use it easily in my shower. My only wish is that the handle was of a more non-slip material, perhaps a little more rubbery than the plastic case it has.

I decided just before Christmas that I was fed up with my current method of hair removal (waxing) and wanted something I had more control of. The annoying thing about waxing I found was the wait for hair to grow long enough for Holga the Hot Waxer to remove.....this meant I had really smooth legs maybe 10 days out of 30 if I was lucky and exfoliated like a mad person.
