I have seen these socket covers in use at the nursery my son will be attending in a few months time and will be advising them to remove the socket covers as they are much more likely to cause harm than empty sockets.Socket covers actually disable one of the incredibly clever safety mechanisms built into every single 3-pin wall socket in use in the UK - a solid plastic gate which covers the live connectors (bottom two) when the earth pin (top one) is not inserted. A search for fatallyflawed or socket covers uk will give you all the detail you need, but if you need to prove it to yourself, buy a 2-plug wall socket for two pounds and (without wiring it up!) see if you can touch the live connectors from the front. Hint: if you're struggling to find a suitable tool/prodder/baby's digit to get into those connectors, try using a socket protector - they're the perfect tool for the job!Avoid!

Bought after doing a FIRE SAFETY training course at work! please get these if you use a plug strip on the floor! these will stop dust getting into the empty pin holes.

These arent special at all and if im honest, far too flimsy to be called safeguards. I can easily pull these out the sockets...but it'll do. Turned up really quickly though.
