  • Dr Thumb offers a simple, safe and effective aid for kicking the thumb sucking habit. Takes as little as 2 weeks, has a 92% success rate and involves absolutely no nasty tasting nail polish!
  • Clinical trials offer Dr Thumb a 92% success rate with the habit broken in as little as 2 weeks. There is nothing more effective at breaking the habit than Dr Thumb.
  • Made from soft non toxic silicone, Dr Thumb fits over and securely fastens to the thumb of either hand. It does not restrict the child's ability to play or cause any discomfort.
  • Available in two sizes; Small to fit from 12-36 months and Large for those aged between 3 and 7 years.
  • Dr Thumb works by breaking the vacuum created when sucking a thumb. Ensuring a small gap between the child's thumb and the guard, it allows air to flow making it impossible to suck. Whilst the child will still be able to put their thumb in their mouth, not having that 'sucking sensation' will remove the pleasure of the habit. The habit is broken naturally and gently.

What's included in the box?
One (1) Dr Thumb guard, Two (2) adjustable straps, One (1) storage case, One (1) user guide

Will I need one for each thumb?
If your child predominantly sucks just one thumb, our research has shown that it is unlikely they will begin sucking the other thumb after putting on the guard. If however, your child sucks their right and left thumbs interchangeably showing little to no preference between the two - then you should consider two guards to break the habit.

Not too sure which size to get?
If your child is between sizes and after measuring their thumb you're still in two minds; to ensure maximum comfort we would always recommend the larger size.

Miracle worker!, 26 Feb. 2014

My son had been sucking his thumb since he was a baby and for what has seemed an entirety we've pleaded, begged and incentivised him to stop - all to no avail. I really wanted him to WANT to give up and my primary concern about introducing a guard and forcing him to stop was taking away his security blanket and affecting him emotionally.

So after months of deliberating with my husband, we finally purchased a Dr Thumb guard. We decided that the best way to approach the use of the guard was in a positive manner, so our son saw the guard as a special present just for him. We showed him pictures of the guard and explained to him what it was for and why we were getting him one. When the guard arrived in the post, we made a big fuss and let him open it and play with it so he could get used to his new ‘gift’.

As the guard has to remain on his hand for 2 weeks, we created a calendar so he could cross off the dates every night as part of his bedtime routine;...

One down, one to go, but hopeful!, 30 Oct. 2014

I have 2 sons, 7 and 5, who both suck their thumbs. We'd tried reward charts, nail biting polish, penalties, even socks! Nothing fixed the problem permanently. As a last resort I bought 3 thumb guards over the Summer holidays. My oldest son sucks both thumbs. We said if he wore a thumb guard on each thumb for 3 weeks he would get a Lego set. After the holidays he was going into Junior school and knew he would receive a lot more teasing for thumb sucking so he wanted to try. He was upset initially but he persevered. We had to adjust the straps to make them more comfortable and at one point he had quite nasty blister from where the guard rubbed against his skin. I covered it with a plaster and it went away and stopped any discomfort. I've waited a while to leave a review as I can't quite believe a habit embedded for 7 years has gone away, but it has. He hasn't sucked his thumb since.

My younger son only sucks one thumb and he quite quickly removed the guards and continued...

Should have tried it sooner, 22 May 2015
My 6 year old daughter came home from school one day, said a girl in her class had a thumb guard to stop her from sucking her thumb and she'd like one too. Music to my ears! She mainly sucked it at night and watching tv but we tried all sorts of things like plasters, socks on hands, horrible tasting nail polish, talks from dentist, bribes from tooth fairy etc....I was unsure about paying so much forthe Dr Thumb and took some time to think about it but she was sure she wanted to stop. What a great product! She only wore it at night and it took a few weeks to work. Not sucking her thumb while watching tv was almost instant. A couple of wobbly nights where she insisted she couldn't get to sleep without sucking her thumb but we got through it. We're seeing the dentist next week so I'll let my daughter tell her the good news that she's stopped sucking her thumb! ! Only downside was working out how to get it on the right way but a visit to YouTube sorted that out :-)
