We bought this gate to fit between the wall and the bannister at the top of our stairs. Firstly, we needed a gate to fit a narrow gap. Most of the standard size gates were too wide. Secondly we wanted a pressure fitted gate as when we've had screw in gates without the pressure frame the screws have always come out of the wall. Thirdly, we wanted a gate that swings shut behind you, partly so that if older children are coming through the gate we don't have to worry about whether they've closed it behind them, and partly just for ease if carrying baby or piles of things.
We had not heard of this brand before but this gate fitted the bill and we're very pleased with it. It was straight forward to fit and opens both ways. It does have wall mounts for the frame to go into. These can be screwed in however we have not screwed them in and we're happy that the gate is solid and secure. We're very familiar with these gates after using them in the USA at both of our homes there - they are very sturdy and although it requires a small "step" up, as another review mentioned, if you place it as low as it needs to be, you won't notice (at least, we didn't!). The greatest thing about these gates are they they are SELF-CLOSING. We've been in a self-catering cottage for a little while, while staying in Guernsey, and the gates equipped here tend to require a little more effort to actually get them to close. I don't like that. I like that these open easily (for adults!) and close right behind you. Do watch out that they can be a little loud when closing! So when baby is asleep, for example, you can mindfully and quietly click it closed... We've had both the white and the black and both are very stylish and don't stand out as tacky, as some gates tend to do. We've also had these at the top of the stairs and our 4-year old can get in and out of it now, but we tend not to worry...
