The Dreambaby Retractable stair gate is a sturdy and durable mesh barrier that retracts on itself to stay out of the way when not in use. The retractable gate is space efficient due to the retractable feature but also fits varying size openings, even extra-wide openings to 140cm wide. Comes with two full sets of mounting brackets so the sturdy yet lightweight gate is great to use indoors for doorways, hallways and stairs or for convenient relocation. As well as using for indoor use, the gate can be used outdoors as the material is UV-resistant treated meaning it will not fade or damage in the sun.

This is perfect for the top of stairs where you don't want a trip hazard of a bottom bar when you don't require the gate. It is sturdy enough when strung over the top of the stairs and I feel it would deflect my toddlers should they run full tilt into it. We use is more as a visual deterrent as the top of the stairs when they are playing or running about. It isn't the easiest to install to be honest, we had to screw a baton to the inside of our newel post, then screw the gate to that. You do have to attach this using screws so if you don't want to damage/put holes in wood then think again. It is easy to use once in place, you push and twist the button, then let go, then you can pull the roller door forward off the hooks and let it roll back again into its holder on the far wall. This means you can do it with one hand, but it does make a clicking noise when it rolls back. This is a great retractable stair gate, and much cheaper than the lascal stair gate. Easy to operate. We needed spacers due to the skirting board, otherwise there is a big unsafe gap at the bottom.

it is not easy to close and certainly cannot be closed one-handed, 5 Feb. 2016
We bought this to use above the third stair on a turning staircase when my young grandchildren visit. It acts as a visual barrier and, therefore, prevents access upstairs. However, it is not easy to close and certainly cannot be closed one-handed. The stops have popped off a couple of times when used by people who have not used it before. The first time this happened, we thought that it was completely broken, but we managed to put it back together.For occasional use it is fine, but I would not recommend it for regular use or for boisterous children.
