I bought this mat because I needed a place to put my new straightners on my bed or on the side to cool down after using without the heat going through my bed or burning anything. I tried it straight away and the heat still went through to my bed even when a I left it on there for a few minutes. However I needed any extra layer to place my straightners and it can also be used for travel which is convenient. (I tried folding the flat side of the mat under the pocket while my set was inside and it reduced the amount of heat going onto my bed.) Overall, a little disappointed that still quite a lot of heat was escaping the mat onto other surfaces but it can still come in useful and it's better than nothing.
