Beethoven's ninth is not a lullaby, 27 Jan. 2015

This is actually smaller than I was anticipating. It's 6" x 6" round. It comes fully operational. It takes two AA batteries. You press the central area and the middle lights up. It makes just two 'charming' hoot-hoot sounds then plays two bars of twangy tunes which gradually gets slower. Then it starts up with the next tune. The box says 'lullabies' but they are nursery rhymes at best such as Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Frere Jacques. There is a hymn, Jesu, Joy of Man's Desire, then there is The Lover's Concerto and Beethoven's 9th, Ode to Joy (the noisy bit). This plays for 15 minutes. The light turns off after five minutes.Pros:The teething 'feet' is a brilliant innovation. What a clever idea!The way that each song slows down towards the end could have the effect of lulling baby off to sleep.The fabric owl is machine washable.There are eight tunes.Cons:You switch the toy off by pressing the central button. I bought this for a blind relative that has impaired motor skills. The tummy is sensitive and so the music is activated easily. It is only small ... but I am happy about this, as it fits in her hand nicely. I also like the fact that unlike some toys, the music isn't too loud ... and plays for about 15 minutes before gently fading away. I am very happy with this purchase.

This is a nice little product, you touch the centre of the owl for it to hoot and it then plays one of several tunes.The owl is made from soft material with small wings and ears and solid plastic feet on the bottom. The front is brown with big eyes and a stripy bottom half with the musical button in the middle. The musical unit is secure in the back of the owl and held inside a Velcro pocket.While it's nice enough and the music is soothing, it's a funny size and not really hug-able (which would set off the music) and my nine month old was interested in it for a few minutes but that was all. Didn't go back to it over a couple of nights so wasn't that keen on it.There's nothing bad about this owl, and the price is just about reasonable for what you get but it wasn't something that baba seemed interested in sadly.
