Lovely lights and sounds and fantastically sturdy., 27 Dec. 2014
I picked this up at the bargain price of £3.25 in a local supermarket clearance section. The flashing lights are triggered by a button being pressed in on the top of the stacker post as you up them on. The lights and sounds are enjoyed by my 13 month old and unlike the simple plastic stacker that he's shown no interest in putting the rings on, he actually tries to out he stars on this one. While the stars vary in size,me post to put them on doesn't so the stars can go on in any order. I would have preferred he post to taper so that the right ring had to be put on in the right order but I suppose that's just personal preference. This has a base that rocks slightly and is quite heavy so beware if your child has just hit that lovely stage of lobbing things across the room!

Not Great for Shape Sorting, 28 Aug. 2014

I bought this for my visually impaired niece to help her develop fine motor skills by learning to stack the rings based on size.

The stacker itself has four lights running up the central pole with a button above them, still on the pole. This button is pressed when a ring is slid on to the pole so that it lights up. There is a button on the top of the pole which plays a tune if pressed and on which the lions head sits.

My niece soon worked out that pressing the buttons negates the need for putting the rings on the pole which defeated the purpose of the toy slightly.

The other downside is that the rings can be slid on to the pole in any order. I had hoped that as with other stackers, only the largest ring would sink to the bottom of the stacker as it had the largest hole, but all 5 rings have the same sized holes and the stacker is cylindrical in shape.

IN summary, you may want to look for a different stacker if you want to use it as a...
