If you're looking for a bright white illumination with a reasonable magnifier and easy positional control then look no further. With a bright, circular, daylight florescent bulb with silent, virtually heatless, operation (no buzzing from the control unit) and a large glass magnifier with sunlight protection cover (to prevent sunlight entering the magnifier and causing potential for accidental combustion) this lamp is perfect for the hobbyist or professional alike. The balance mechanism and springs are all hidden inside the support arms for the lamp and provide good balance and positionability for the head of the device. The mounting clamp provided is of a cast metal construction and provides good support for the lamp over a wide range of desktop thickness. When I first unpacked the lamp the internal support mechanism was a little squeaky at its ends of operation, however, a little light oil applied to the apertures soon stopped this and improved general operation as well. An excellent piece of kit for the price. Cantilever arms stay just where you put them. The daylight balanced lamp is ideal for assessing colour shifts on photographs. Only one minor difficulty and that is that the 5X magnification may be a bit too strong for my use, air brushing 00 gauge diaramas.Definately Recommended

Great bit of kit, I use it for modelling and find the magnification in conjunction with the built in light just right for the the real close up work.The only downer, I wish the dust cover was removable, otherwise well built and sturdy item.
