Daytime Play and Night-time Soothing In One, 22 Oct. 2015

Another fantastic baby toy from Lamaze and another bit hit in our home. I have attached a short video of the Shine and Sounds Shelly which can be viewed either via a desktop computer or if you have your phone/tablet in desktop mode. There is also a photo slideshow at the end of the video should anyone wish to just look at the photo's rather than view the video.

Shelly has both a daytime and a night-time mode and so can double up as a night-time soother for your baby in addition to being a normal daytime toy. In both modes Shelly plays music and has 3 pictures (Frog, Bird & Butterfly) that light up on the mirror and alternate between themselves in different patterns to keep your baby interested but in the night-time mode the music is softer and the alternation is slower. Lovely Lamaze Snail, 3 Nov. 2015

As with all Lamaze toys, this Sing and Shine Shelly Snail (slight tongue twister) is bright, colourful and cheery with an appealing face. It has lots of different textures - velour fabric, ribbon tags, ridged furry fabric on the shell - encouraging 'tactile development'. But it's not a cuddly toy as such, the central part of it's body housing the mirror and battery compartment is quite hard, this is more of a first interactive toy, with the idea of your little one learning to connect sight, sound and touch.

Shelley Snail has two modes - daytime and night time - in daytime mode when your lo presses the mirror, one of four jolly tunes plays and the mirror lights up with a bird, frog and butterfly. The modes are selected with a slider switch on the back of the snail and in night time mode one of two lullabies will play. Night time mode will run for twenty minutes hopefully giving your lo time to drop off to sleep. I like how in night time mode the images in the mirror still...

This is not really a toy - it's a music player with a mirror that is designed to be propped up (by itself or with a little peg on its rear). It might have been nice to have a hook to hang it on the cot bars, etc.

The snail has the usual frenetic colourscheme which seems to attract children. It is mainly yellow but adds a green head and lots of other colours too. This is useful as it could be given to a child of any sex. The material is differently textured on the head and body - I particularly liked the corduroy outside of the shell bit. None of the material has that crinkly effect which I often associate with this manufacturer's products but there are seven small coloured ribbons attached for children to try and grasp.
