My 3 year old loves playing with all leap start systems very good for learning and activity play to get the brain going

A clever core idea but badly realised, 13 Sept. 2017

We were fairly underwhelmed by this.

It’s a rather clever technology, putting the scanner in the end of the pen and scannable info embedded in the printed picture, but it took my 5-year-old daughter a bit of practice to point it in exactly the right way, and to understand that the hit spots had white borders; in choosing things beginning with ‘b’ she pointed the pen at the books in the background, which was a valid answer but the device didn’t recognise it as it wasn’t a hit spot. It also takes a bit of mastering to follow the lines- when I tried it with my 2-year-old, together it took a while to start and stop where it wanted us too, even though to our eyes what we were doing was already correct.

The stylus is comfy to hold, and has grips to encourage the tripod grip in youngsters. It’s a bit big and heavy for a lap, so it’s best used at a table, adding to the feeling that this is a formal workbook rather than a fun toy.
