Pleasure to use., 22 May 2011

This is the lighter version of the Heavy Duty 34C but if you are coming from plastic cartridge razors the 33C is significantly heavier and feels good in the hand.

I never bought into the razor blade arms race between Gillette and Wilkinson Sword and had been using the two-blade Gillette Sensor since it was first introduced in 1990. However recently I'd been having difficulty finding blades and even the inferior Sensor Excel has been hard to find. I looked at more recent blades and was shocked to see the price of both Fusion and Mach 3 cartridges. I decided to look at a traditional razors and chose the 33C.

Initially I was very careful with this as the exposed blade requires a different technique to the recessed cartridge razors - rather than pushing into the face, you simply guide the razor over the face. I watched a few videos on youtube uploaded by a user called "mantic59" and this really helped getting the technique nailed without too many nicks and cuts...

A True Classic, 16 May 2014
The 33c deserves its name, it really is a Classic. Often unfairly neglected because of its more common big brother, the 34c, this 3 piece razor deserves to be up there with the best. Mild yet effective, lightweight yet powerful the Classic is perhaps more versatile than big brother as its featherweight makes it a fine travel razor in addtion to being my favourite day to day razor.I don't mind the weight decrease compared with my heavier razors, you don't really notice it - the sign of an excellent piece of engineering. Supplied with one Merkur blade (put it straight in the bin and use a Shark or a Feather) The Classic has a slim 75mm handle with unobtrusive, tasteful knurling to prevent slips and the whole thing is finished with a lovely deep chrome patina. If you like a longer handle go for the 23c. Get one!

Top razor., 19 April 2011
I have tried all sorts of modern razors. I still love the old 'Seven O'clock' type of razor. It gives as good a shave as any other razor without all the fuss and cost.
