The mattress is firm and well sprung. The outer cover is not too dissimilar to a Tyvek coverall with a papery feel to it. The cover is tough and water resistant to the point where fluids will bead off, but if left in contact with a fluid it will eventually soak through. If you have a wetting alarm then you should be able to get to it before any fluid penetrates through. The cover can be easily removed (via a plastic zip) for washing at 60 degrees. Once removed you will see a thinner cover that resembles an over stretched gauze bandage (I really couldn't see the need for this), under this is the reportedly waterproof cover for the mattress springs and foam.

The mattress seems comfortable enough and my toddler has been sleeping on it without any complaints. However, wen I push my hand down onto the mattress I can feel the edge of the springs. Whilst my little one hardly makes a dent on the mattress, I wonder if the situation will change if a heavier child were to sleep on it...

Good quality mattress with only one drawback, 11 July 2013

Well constructed, sturdy and firm. Our four month old daughter seemed to find it pretty comfortable. The mattress has a washable cover which is very useful too.The reason why I gave this four stars and not five is because the inner waterproof cover is not wide enough and when my daughter moves, it doesn't cover the whole mattress area that she would be lying on.Update - after only 9 months, some of th springs started to go, so we had to get another mattress. I think mattresses should last a lot longer!

Good value mattress for smaller children., 28 May 2013

This is a nice mattress and represents good value for money in my opinion. I had my nieces over when this arrived so we gave it a good test. The 6 and 9 year old girls could feel the springs, but the 4 year old couldn't. I would suggest this version of the mattress is not suitable for larger kids - under 4 feet tall seems to be the limit.The mattress is comfortable and stable - not too bouncy. We really value the hypo allergenic materials - great for kids with asthma. You'll probably also find the moveable inner waterproof liner helpful when you're getting your little one out of nappies.
