We bought the MBP854 Connect unit to replace a malfunctioning MBP36 unit that we had for less than a year. As many have indicated in reviews, the MBP36 eventually degrades over time (night vision is reduced to almost invisible, button labels wear off the parent unit, and we actually had issues with the power cords that resulted in exposed copper wire where it meets the plug. The exposed wire was the last straw since it was an actual fire-hazard right near our baby's crib, and also caused the camera to short-out throughout the night. But enough about the shortcomings on the MBP36 – let’s move on to the MBP854:
When I saw the MBP854, I was impressed with the feature description. However I definitely suffered from being an "early adopter" of this unit (I'll explain that later). There are some definite pro’s for the MBP854, but also some serious con's. I'll list them below:

Baby monitors were apparently invented to soothe anxious mothers after the Lindbergh baby kidnapping of the 1930's. Since then we've managed to upgrade our fears substantially with breathing monitors, £100 cot pillows, "baby-proofing" things like electrical sockets which actually makes them more dangerous, and of course substantially more worrying medical things that I shan't mention. And for the first nine months of having a baby, you're going to be worried about all of that. Sorry.
What this camera can do, is provide in-house reassurance that the absence of noise is not a bad thing, that there's a reason your little one woke up at a 180 degree angle from where you set her down, and that is absolutely 100% fine to leave her to her own devices every now and then. For us this camera represents not having to sneak up stairs, ninja-style to peak in on her to see whether she's settled down for the night. Once she started crawling and grabbing for the camera (and its...

I thought we didn't need a video monitor, but boy, was I wrong?
We used a sensor monitor (Angelcare) with out first daughter as we had to move her out of our bedroom at only 5 weeks old (due to health problems). It really gave us piece of mind.
Back then, we decided we did not want a video monitor because we would only be staring at it all the time, but as we were given the chance to try it with our second baby, we decided to give it a go.
I have to say that it has been a godsend! The main benefit for us is that we can monitor our daughter during nap time and we are able to get to her before she cries, as we can see her moving well before she reaches that point. We can move the camera from room to room, depending on where we manage to put her down very easily.
Anyway, enough of the benefits of having a video monitor and on to why you should/shouldn't buy this particular model:
Pros:
- it is very easy to set up
- the...
