My vet said that my dog may have had an allergic reaction when recently his mouth and jowls became mildly inflamed. It started shortly after using this toothpaste and stopped after I reverted back to my usual brand. The vet suggested I compare ingredients panels to see if I could locate the ingredient for future avoidance. What I found concerning is that there is no ingredients panel on it as there are on other makes I have used. I am not suggesting this is toxic, but what if a child should swallow it and you need to seek medical advice - what is the first thing the Dr. will ask, what is in it? Which is exactly what my vet asked when I asked if it might be the toothpaste causing the allergy.

I wrote to Beaphar to ask that they print the ingredients on the toothpaste. Their response was that there was no legal requirement to display what is in their product, but it does contain:

Bought this when it was on special offer. Good dog toothpaste. Tip : Try to get your dog from a young age to have its teeth cleaned. They won't like it but will come to accept it as part of their routine. First of all just play when they try to bite the toothbrush, just "dab" it on their teeth - all they will do is lick the toothpaste, but then gradually give a few strokes with the brush followed up with a treat, and gradually build up to a proper clean. This could take between 1 month and 2 months to achieve. just be patient as my last dog died at 17 years and 5 months of age and vet said her teeth were in extremely good condition. I clean my two dogs' teeth whilst watching TV, twice a week.

This toothpaste is excellent, I use an old toothbrush and gently clean round the teeth. After only a few cleans the teeth were looking much better and whiter. It obviously tastes good to the dog, but doesn't smell meaty. Reasonable price too.
