Bulky blue handset, 21 Nov. 2013

Having reviewed the Philips Avent DECT SC535 a little while ago, I am going to base this review on comparison between the two. The aforementioned monitor has been good apart from an issue with the handset not charging properly in its charging cradle and issues with the lithium ion phone type rechargeable battery. Thankfully Amazon now supply replacements for this type of battery, otherwise the device would have been rendered useless after twelve months of use.

This brings me onto the SCD570 which thankfully doesn't suffer with the issue of hard to source replacement rechargeable batteries, as it uses readily available AA size 1300mAH ones. The features of both are very similar with five nice lullabies, temperature monitoring, talk facility, night light, low battery indicator and a flashing light to indicate noise levels. The SC570 lacks the humidity sensor/reading of the 535, but this is not a big issue and makes up for it with a useful 24 hour feed timer and cry...

Easy to ise and (mostly) useful, 4 Oct. 2013

I didn't already have a baby monitor, so this was a useful product to receive. Admittedly, I also have no basis for comparison, either. Anyway, on it's own merits, I am pleased to say this is proving very useful.

We live in a flat, so range is perhaps not the overriding concern, but I am pleased to say I ave encountered no problems with that, no matter where we have the base unit and parent unit. The instructions also promise a bigger range in an open area (though that seems a slightly odd thing to use it for, but no matter). The parent unit has rechargeable batteries - necessary - and the base also allows you to use batteries, useful if you wish to use it out and about, I guess. Though, as I say... why?

Set up is incredibly easy. Plug in and switch on both units, they find each other and away you go! Oh - this is a Philips device, so it does note that you should avoid other DECT devices close by. We do have a Philips 'phone, but there doesn't seem to be a great...

Very good in (almost) every way, 21 Nov. 2013

The first thing that strikes you is the beautiful design and excellent built quality. The unit(s) have a very solid feel and are not going to break if dropped or knocked about a bit.

The sound quality is superb; not a hint of hiss or static, right out to 20m (the furthest I tested it). The sound and light system is also well thought-out, being not too bright / loud and having calm tunes rather than 'interesting' music. Charging time for the unit is several hours, but it will last all day on a full charge.

The only problem (or annoyance) I found was the usual; the interface. It is not automated in the slightest i.e. music setlist and has few options to reduce the number of button-clicks. Ideally it would have a USB port to connect to a PC or tablet so you could program it via a proper interface, upload your own music etc. The menu is as clunky as and other monitor, and can be a pain to navigate when you are tired. Comparing this model to the slightly cheaper...
