Generations of humans lasted for tens of thousands of years without breast-feeding kits but since the breast (and, more specifically, the nipple) have been vilified and sexualized over the years it is considered improper to breastfeed in a lot of places and many people have an alarming view of keeping up the practice beyond 12-months.
Thus, kits like this are essential if you wish to make feeding with breast milk more discreet. All of the parts come in their own box and are separate from each other. All of the plastic is very sturdy and easy to wash. There are a couple of pacifiers included but I would recommend not using them as they are not good for a baby's dental development. There are two different sizes of bottles which can be sterilized in the cleaner provided, and the containers with lids are very handy if you have overproduced and wish to freeze milk or give it to someone else who needs it for their own child.

Breastfeeding is a big issue for mothers of new-borns and toddlers. The biggest problem with this is the judgemental attitude of people (NHS “professionals”, family, friends and even passers-by).
The so-called “professionals” (and I have yet to meet one who has a child of her own) add to the massive amounts of stress that a nursing mother can feel and stress can effect the flow of milk which a woman produces – even stopping it completely.
Almost every mother wants to be with their baby but needs must and we cannot always be there when they need feeding so those who can express some milk can put some into the fridge or freezer for the carer of the baby to use when the mother is unavailable.

This bumper pack of Philips baby bits is a really good starter kit if you're expecting your first baby. Often, expectant mothers will get hand-me-downs left right and centre thanks to the wonderful world of babyconomics, but in the case of items like this, you would be better off- and potentially safer- getting a brand new set.
Though it's not clear from the pictures, what you get is a large cardboard box, within which are a lot of individually-boxed Philips retail products. So if you had any reason to, you could get this pack for the bits that you want, and then pass on the bits that you weren't going to use.
With the washable breast pads, you get a set of 6 (or 3 pairs, depending on how you look at it), and it includes a washing bag- which is essential, as if you put the pads into your washing machine without putting them in a bag first, you can end up clogging your washing machine up, as we found out previously to our cost.
