Excellent camera, steep entry price, 12 July 2016

Having tried a few baby monitors with mixed results i was keen to see how the Philips Avent uGrow performed considering its price tag. For the money you get a 720p camera with built in nightlight, decent lullabies, 2 way communication and a temperature and humidity monitor the latter i've not seen before on a baby monitor.

Philips have decided not to include a monitor with this camera and instead the camera relies on using a wifi connection and the use of a phone or tablet device. While i would of liked a monitor most tend to be of low resolution and poor quality that they don't show the cameras full potential. A negative for wifi only is its not possible to use the camera locally if a wifi connection isn't available.

The quality of the camera is the best i've experienced, in day light its as good as the 1080p Motorola MBP853 (despite having a lower resolution) but its in night mode where the camera comes into its own. Unlike other monitors detail and resolution...

Excellent night vision and great functionality and monitoring... Drains your iPhone battery - read on...., 23 July 2016

We had spent a great deal of time deliberating between various different baby monitors, which no longer just show a video on a screen, but instead monitor all sorts of marvellous things to ensure peace of mind.

The Philips Avent Ugrow is up there with the best of these devices, and it should be considering the £180 cost. As well as live video feed, it offers humidity and temperature monitoring (limits for which you can set yourself) and lullabies.

It was the first I'd seen which didn't have a monitor as it is streamed directly to your phone (once you've downloaded the app) so I was keen to see the quality of the picture. Setting the device up and downloading the app was much more straightforward than I thought it would be, and took less than 10 minutes once I'd connected to the wifi (which took a few attempts).

The camera itself doesn't move, so it's important to get it in the right position but once it is the picture quality is very good, and much...

Great video quality but just didn't work reliably enough for us, 13 July 2016

I really liked the features of SCD860 baby monitor but it just struggled to work reliably despite the great video quality.

I was attracted by the SCD860 after our BT 7500 stopped working, the 720p HD video quality was in a different league to the BT unit. I was also attracted by the ability to see baby when I was at work. We did miss the zoom and tilt / pan feature on the BT unit too as well as the lightshow.

We have a BT Home Hub 5 and we had constant issues with the video disappearing and the screen going into audio only mode. What was odd was you could have two tablets next to each other one showing clear video and the other saying it can't find the baby monitor. We also lost connection during the night and the app beeped waking us up. On one occassion the picture had frozen showing baby asleep when baby was actually up for a few hours.

The connection issues might have been due to our router but I also tried the SCD860 in a different house with a...
