Good value for money - conveniently small but will take a while to do your whole beard, 20 April 2015

There are a lot of beard trimmers on the market to choose between. The low price of the Philips Series 1000 tells you you're making some kind of compromise so the big question is whether it works, and whether it represents good value for money.

The things you don't get are a carry case or attractive stand. Inside the packaging you have a very thin red plastic tray that holds everything. The tray isn't particularly convenient. It's designed to survive transport to the shop so you spend a few unwanted nanoseconds every time you fumble trying to pull something out and use it. If you have a swish-looking bathroom you wouldn't want to leave this plastic tray out on display.

The actual razor handle on the other hand is an attractive black. Mainly rubberized where you hold it. The battery compartment for the single AA battery (Philips Alkaline supplied) has a triangular cross section. After you remove it to insert the battery you have to align two tiny black...

Works a treat, 17 April 2015

The Philips Multigroom Series 1000 has been pretty good with no problems so far, does the job competently and with less irritation than my previous set of clippers because the blade edges on this product are rounded as opposed to sharp edged. Can't comment on its long-term reliability but will update the review if matters change.

The package comes with 3 precision “combs” for an even trim of facial hair, and thus helps create straight lines over the contours of your face. A fully washable brush is provided for cleaning the trimmer, while the ergonomic design lends itself to the easy-hold, of the device, gives you full control, as you can use it whilst it is wet. Its small, form factor, lends itself to those of who have a peripatetic working life, or if you are away on holiday. As the bumf says “the trimmer is resistant, so they are easy to clean. Simply wash under the tap. It’s also designed to be used in the shower”.

Since I turn forty, some two years ago, something happened to my facial hair. It's gone wild. Grows out of every hole, orifice, wrinkle, sideburns, everywhere, it's out of control. So There I was, in desperate need of a solution. Something needed to be done and quickly. Enter Philips Multi-Groom Ultra Precise Beard Styler Series 1000, or as I like to call it, “The little Philips”. I started with my eyebrows. The little Philips comes with three little combs, I used the one labelled S, and surprise, it cuts to short. Luckily my eyebrows grew back in no time. So now I use the larger comb and it is working a treat.

I like it's small size, it makes the little Philips easy to handle and unobtrusive when trimming facial hair. I like it so much that I also use it in my sideburns. I trim them a little bit with the M comb, and give the last touches with no comb attach. My sideburns now look perfect all the time. It works so well that I started to wander if I could do some...
