The '3-in-1' part of the product's name refers to the fact there are three different ways to assemble it. With a small and large basket, its modular nature means that you can sterilise just a few items such as soothers or teats using only the small basket; use the larger basket on its own to sterilise medium sized items such as breast pumps, plates or cutlery; or combine the two to sterilise up to 6 x 330ml bottles.

It is a natural steam steriliser, so there's no need to purchase additional consumables such as chemicals. It operates in cycles of twenty minutes - 10 minutes to heat up and sterilise the contents of the baskets, and 10 minutes cool down. It's not possible to restart the system until it has completed it's ten minute cool down. It turns itself off automatically at the end of the heating cycle.

It is a lightweight plastic design, but with a sturdy feeling base. Although there seemed to be a bit of play between the interlocking baskets, there wasn't...

NOT a good buy, 1 May 2013

Within two days of using this steriliser the water trough was going dark brown and emitting a burning smell. This meant that the steam being sent up through the compartments was the steam from burning water - making our bottles and teats smell of burning, staining them brown and contaminating them (therefore, not sterile).

We phoned Phillips as our Amazon account said we were too late to return it (we'd bought it in November during the pregnancy but didn't need it until the baby was being bottle-fed in April). Phillips (despite lots of complaints on their websites of a similar nature), fobbed us off and said the problem was limescale and gave us instructions for descaling.

We went through this process (although how you're supposed to leave it to descale for several hours while you need to use it every 3-4 hours is a nonsense, and please someone show me a new Mum who has time to scrub a steriliser clean....) - but it was NOT limescale, it was burning. I am very impressed with this steriliser. It is so easy to use, you just add a bit of water into the water basin and then load up your items and it sterilises in 6 minutes. I generally always use the 2 sections (bottles in tall white part and teats and other small accessories in top bit), however you can use it for breast pumps/dummies etc. and just use one section. I highly recommend this product.
