My son was reluctant to use public toilets, but then happily did so with this 'magic toilet seat' to great success. I was not convinced that the liners would properly absorb/hold the wee, but, again - he happily used it in a discreet corner of the park and the liners worked perfectly.
Only slight downside is the price of the liners and the need to clip the feet into place for use as a potty when in a rush. I would recommend that if you know you'll be using it as a potty, rather than a toilet seat, when you're out - have a liner ready in place.
We chose this over the carry travel potties that close up keeping the wee or poo inside as by disposing of the wee or poo in the liner bags; you can use the potty, or seat, again as many times as needed when you're out and about and obviously you aren't then carrying around a container full of wee or poo!

This potty is fab. It folds up small. It is easy to set up. My daughter (2.5 years) loves it, seems to find it comfy, and has been very happy sitting on it anywhere ever since we started using the potty (2 months ago). The bag liners mean that it is easy and hygienic to dispose of the contents. The only downside is that the liners are not cheap, but I suspect you could improvise with a small food bag with tie handles (although you wouldn't then get the bonus of the frogs on the liner, which seem to be part of the appeal for our daughter at least!). The fact that it also doubles up as a trainer seat is a complete bonus. We have already used it as both a potty and trainer seat numerous times in the 2 months that we have been using the potty and we now have 2 of them - one which lives in the car and one under the buggy. Perfect for potty training. Really useful for the initial stages when the need is urgent and you just don't have time to get to a toilet. If you keep a bag (or 3) ready on the folded potty you can have a functional potty up in a matter of seconds. I used this in many places as a potty and I did get a few funny looks but I'm sure those people would rather it all went in a bag than on the floor! The function as a toilet seat becomes really useful for a long time; until your little one is comfortable to sit on a grown-up toilet seat. My little boy is almost 3 and still likes to sit on a smaller seat even after being toilet trained since he was 2 and the potty function gets used when on outings where there are no toilets (e.g. walks in the woods). I think having the potty available on outings sped up the training process and the fact that it folds up makes it convenient to carry around either in the bag hung on/ under the pushchair or in a backback/bag that you are carrying around.
