We got this product when our daughter started moving around. Originally we planned on using it as a playpen as we have an open plan house with a slate fireplace, a step and obviously stairs!
While she was just 'shuffling' around from 5/6 months it was fine as it contained her but once she started crawling she hated it! There really isn't enough room to use it as a playpen for a child that is learning to crawl or walk.
We have now converted into a room divider and it works a treat. Apart from the fact you have to live with their sizings so our divider isn't straight, it has a V in the middle it was easy to put together and fix to the walls.
I would also like to say that as a playpen it is easy to 'put down' it folds flat and could be store behind a sofa or against a wall with few problems, we did this when it was just a playpen. It is heavy and bulky though so I'd suggest a permenant place for it if you intend on leaving it as a playpen...
