Looks much better than a regular box fire guard and I believe is better quality too. Very sturdy, comes with instructions, but I didn't need them. Took no more than 15 mins to put up and secureJust minor observations:Make sure you measure fire properly, this came just smaller than I measured, but that might be our measuring up at faultIt does not open when put together, I guess to stop kids posting stuff through top. Not problem for us. It does however have clips, an adult can unclip it easily from the wall and move the whole guard if tending a fire or could (with pliers) bend little securers to make an open door at top.

This is much better than I thought from the picture. I have a modern 'Tudor' type fireplace and this looks lovely over it, even though I was unsure if it would go. The rounded top also stops little ones from trying to climb up it as they have tried before with the flat top type. Bought for grandson before he begins to roam but already 'tested' by a toddler and found to be good and sturdy. Easy to assemble and attach screw ends to wall which is good as watching a little one doesn't give much time for DIY. The matte black is much better than the old gold/brass coloured fireguards as well.

could do with having more top cover as you can still touch wood burning stove, 19 Aug. 2013
A piece broke off before I had it put together! . The whole thing has to come off to load fire as its a front loading fire with a door. Which when you have children is not very safe to do. The top cover needs to be full width of sides for a stove like mine.
