We have an Ergo which I love, but once my daughter got past about 12m old she became a real nosy parker and wanted to see where she was going when I carried her - she couldn't see over my shoulder well when carried on my back in the Ergo. There is a hip carry possible with the Ergo but I found it uncomfortable as it's not really designed for it. So I invested in a Scootababy after trying one at a local sling group. It is really perfect for us - the fleece part is very comfy and spreads the weight out across your shoulder. It's very well made, the quality is second to none.
The only problem is that it doesn't work well if you are wearing a water resistant type coat. The relatively smooth shiny coat fabric just means the fleece part and the straps slide around quite a lot which meant I was constantly adjusting where my baby was sitting, pulling at the straps, etc; I couldn't really get it comfy. This is the only reason it's lost a star but I think this would be a problem with any...

I've always loved soft ring slings or wraps for hip carries, and so when I first tried a Scootababy I wasn't expecting to prefer something so structured. I'm glad to say that I was pleasantly surprised and really very impressed when I tried this carrier with my 2 year old.
It's super easy to use - you just buckle it around your waist, hold baby on hip, pop the cushy fleece shoulder part over both of your heads, tighten and you're off. No faffing with ties or clips or trying to get a good seat or fighting a wrigging baby/toddler. Once it's on, it transfers the weight nicely to your hips and has been comfortable for us for walks of up to about 45 minutes (which in my opinion is great for hip carries with a 2.5 year old!) This carrier works brilliantly for us because, though my toddler wants to be carried on my hip a lot, now she's a real 'terrible two', she's much less patient with me taking any time to adjusting a sling around her.
