This cover is simple to fit and does the job. The cover was bought to prevent a relation with dementia from using the micowave. She had been caught trying to put a saucepan in the microwave. Every lunchtime the carer had to unlock the box to temporarily switch on the power to heat a meal.

Like other socket protectors, this rather large unit fits under the socket face plate, but when I installed it, I found that the thickness of the bit of the socket cover unit which fits beneath the faceplate meant that the standard screws which hold the faceplate in place were no longer long enough, so I had to go out and buy longer screws (not the easiest things to find as I discovered).

The socket cover comes in 2 parts, the upper section slides under the face plate, but the lower part has to be installed separately, which was tricky as the socket was installed close to the skirting board.

The plastic locking mechanism seems a bit flimsy and operation of the lock is a bit hit and miss. You also need lots of space at the locking end to get the rather chunky key into its slot.

Once installed the cover works ok (we have reservations about the locking mechanism), but it looks a bit clumsy and we will certainly be buying a different product to protect...

This is an awful product, best save your money for something else. I might have been a bit overzealous in ordering these when childproofing the house when our daughter learned to crawl, but thought I'd give these a go for those sockets which are hardly ever touched but were used for electrical equipment that are usually never switched off, eg, fridge\freezer, broadband, tv, etc. It fitted over the socket ok, but firstly, you need a lot of room on the side where the key goes, and second, if the plugs are in any way a non-standard shape, then the cover just doesn't work. Anyway, fitted the cover and closed it, to find the key was then unable to open the lock. After trying for 10 minutes, eventually ended up breaking the cover open with a screwdriver and snapping the lock mechanism. Waste of money
