This hammer and balls toy is very solid and sturdy. The balls are big. It encourages children to develop a multitude of physical and mental skills. Lining up the colourful solid balls in the holes then aiming and pounding them with the mallet. The balls then drop into the box and out of the side into the sloping trays. The bottom tray will catch the balls so that you do not have to chase after the balls underneath sofas or tables! Looks good at first glance but fabrication a bit below standard. The bottom rail wasn't glued properly and I had to re-glue as it fell apart on unpacking. It has nylon inserts allowing the balls to be hammered through. These are too tight and too allow a child to hammer through it required only a little trimming with a knife, otherwise leave for an adult to hammer. Generally good value but needs a bit refining. Hard to hammer until you open the ring up, 15 Jan. 2014
When we got this, the rings were so tight it was impossible to hammer the balls through (even for adults). I snipped the rubber rings so that they sit properly in the grooves and now they're perfect. Our 2-year-old loves this toy and plays with it every day. My only suggestion to the manufacturers would be to adjust how the lowest level slopes so that the balls roll into it properly instead of stacking up in a bunch.

OK toy but needs some modifications!, 10 Jan. 2015
Good toy but I had to make some modifications to it! The balls were too big for the holes and I couldn't even push them through! I trimmed the rubber rings so they fitted through easier! I also had to stick some foam pads to the underneath of the toy at the back to get the balls to tip forwards out of the wooden box or they just sit in the top and don't come out down the slide.
