Wahl is and has been for as long as I can remember my Dad's preferred brand. This one arrived just in time for Mum to send his previous trimmer to go and live on a lovely farm. (He was too attached to it to put it in the B-I-N so we had to disappear it). Anyway I am delighted to say that after initial sniffing at his shiny new Wahl Beard Trimmer and mutterings of, "it's never going to be as good" we have after one full charge and several trims a rather grudging, "should have gotten rid of the other one ages ago" and this is excellent. In fact he's so delighted with it when my brother asked to try it out he was given a very categoric NO!
Apparently although Wahl advertise this as a beard trimmer it is oh so much more than just a beard trimmer. This is essentially just another beard trimmer and an expensive one at that. The cut is better than most I have ever tried, but there is nothing to say that it is a superior cut to others. It does trim through thick hair with ease, but that is what one would expect from a trimmer. I guess what sets this a little ahead of the competition is that is comes with a plethora of combs and 3 heads (including bare blade). Of course having a load of blades is only a bonus if you need such an array, otherwise they are just something that takes up room in the supplied storage pouch. Personally I only ever need one depth of cut, but the additional combs are there if you decide to mix it up a bit.
The detailed head is good for getting a little shape going to the beard and getting down to 0.5mm means you almost look clean shaven up to the hair line. The foil razor for the larger areas you want smooth does the job, but if you have fast hair growth you could be seeing a shadow a lot sooner...

The last time I reviewed a beard trimmer it was a Philips one where I said something like 'this is the best I've had and significantly superior to my previous Wahl'.
Like the turncoat I am, I have to tell you that this Wahl beard trimmer is the best I've had and superior to my previous Philips. Perhaps not significantly so on this occasion but considering I awarded the Philips one five stars, any improvement is enough.
It wins as a package, coming with just about everything you could think of in need to maintain any beard, stubble or indeed clean shave. It has a nice ergonomic, compact feel to it. The charge time and battery life are pleasing and the one minute emergency charge will likely be a godsend at least once to every user.
The trimming itself is smooth, speedy and gives perfect results. It comes at a relatively high price. If you're on a budget, you could pick up a trimmer for half the price that is ultimately going to do the same thing. But...
