Enjoyable Meccano-style set. Minor error and some ambiguities in the instructions, otherwise great., 7 Jan. 2016

I was kindly given a free review sample of this car building kit.

I never had Meccano when I was little, most of my early-year building being done with Legos, but I'm sure this is something I would have enjoyed when I was younger. Speaking of age, the box says 6+, but the instructions say 14+. I think 6+ is fine for this sort of thing.

When it comes to the instructions, they do leave a little bit to be desired. Some parts are easy to confuse, especially the medium length bolts look almost identical to the long ones in the drawings and further use of identifying letters for each part would have been helpful to avoid any confusions. I made some tiny mistakes when building it because of this lack of clarity.

Then again, I'm not sure that's such a bad thing. Part of the fun and challenge for me with a set like this is actually to overcome the difficulties of a slightly vague assembly guide. Then again, there is...

Nice throwback Meccano-style toy, shame about the packaging and instructions, 2 Jan. 2016

This toy is intended for 6 years and up, but a 6 year old can't be expected to work out how to build this on their own. Even his parents will struggle. If you thought the instructions for that Ikea flatpack furniture were a bit fiddly, just wait until you start investigating this!

It's a neat toy that feels very akin to a bit of a 1950's Meccano throwback. There's very little novelty plastic here, it's a toy that manages to turn bent metal and screws into something exciting. The end result is a fun little push-along toy with a lot of play potential. It's just a shame that in order to reach that stage, you have to spend hours- literally hours- trying to spot the difference between the short screws and the not-quite-so-short screws, and fathoming whether you should be using the green washer or the yellow washer this time, since the two are almost exactly the same shame and the instructions are printed in black and white.

The Chinglish on the box is problematic too...

I would suggest this is better suited to children older than 6- there are a ..., 10 Jan. 2016

When I first opened the box I was quite surprised at just how small the pieces are as well as just how many there are given this is aimed at a suggested age of 6 and over. This really is quite fiddle to put together and equally the instructions are poor, hindering the ability to build this in the suggested time frame and causing much frustration all round. Certainly this is nor something that I personally feel could be built by a 6 year old- certainly my friend's little boy who I had this in mind for- needed substantial help in order to build this- it was more a case of an adult building it for him to play with than something he was able to complete- especially given the poor instructions. I would suggest this is more suitable for older children of perhaps 8 or 9.

I was also surprised given the large number of small pieces that a storage container was not supplied to ensure they are kept safe. It could also have been used to have organised and separated the very similar...
