Sometimes the simplest toys, like the simplest ideas, are the best and this casa pura play-mat is probably one of those. Of course just because it’s a simple idea doesn’t make it simple to produce and I’m sure someone took a lot of time over the artwork alone on these play-mats. We got the City Map version and there’s lots of elements on there that kids can incorporate into imaginative play including a hospital, airport, cinema, garage and a railway station and railway track (as yet uncompleted). Of course the main pleasure comes from driving their toy cars around the town and this is one toy that doesn’t need a set of instructions, they’ll just get it immediately.
The mat is made from relatively thin non-woven polyester which has a latex-coated underside to stop it slipping around on hard floors. There’s a bit of cushioning, enough to make it quite knee-friendly, but it’s more for play than comfort and the idea probably wouldn’t work with a thick padded mat. The printing...
